| 29th | Last Fridays - Come to Downtown Hillsborough from 6:00-9:00 to hear live music, participate in an art walk, enjoy an artist demonstration, watch Chucklefest films, and much more! Plenty of parking can be found at the new Eno River parking deck.

| 31st | Drum Talk, Roots and Rhythm! Comunity Drumming workshop with Beverly Botsford - Suday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Masonic Lodge - 142 West King Street - Building community, celebrating diversity and exploring the infinite potential of the groove, Beverly will share basic techniques of hand drums and percussion with a focus on the traditions and inspirations of Africa, Cuba, and the Caribbean. With Congas, dundun, djembe, shekere, and an array of percussion instruments, participants will explore groove, phrasing, call and response, poly-rhythymic orchestration, dynamics, and improvisation. This is not to be missed. There will be parts for all levels, ages and experience. Cost is $15 per individual and $25 per family. | 31st | Family Drum Workshops for Children Under 11 - Come to the Masonic Lodge on Sunday, August 31st for a family drumming workshop. The workshop is $10 per child or $20 per family (of 4 or less) and will last from 4:30 - 6:00 pm.

| 6th | Fabric Costume Design Workshop - This workshop, hosted by the Hillsborough Arts Council, is for the Hillsborough Handmade Parade. The workshop lasts from 1:00-5:00 p.m. and reservations are recommended.

| 7th | Lucian Read Gallery Show - The Burwell School Historic Site will host an exhibit featuring photographs of the war in Iraq. Opening reception and lecture by the world-renowned photographer 7:30-10:00 p.m. The exhibit runs until Oct. 12 and is free and open to the public.

| 7th | On the Vine - On the Vine is a wine tasting excursion and fundraiser benefiting the Orange County Historical Museum. The event takes place between 4:00 - 7:00 p.m on September 7th. Tickets are available at the museum (201 N. Churton St.) or online. Reservations are limited.

| 9th | Orient Express: Looking for Carpets in All the Right Places - Dr. Douglas Lay will present an illustrated lecture on the world of rugs and textiles. This event is sponsored by the Historical Foundation of Hillsborough and Orange County and The Chapel Hill Museum. Tickets may be purchased by calling 919-929-7467 or 919-967-1400.

| 13th | 2nd Saturday Hillsborough Guided Walking Tour, 10am & 2pm, The Alexander Dickson House, 150 E. King St., Hillsborough. Explore Hillsborough's history on a 90-minute guided walking tour through its historic district. $2-$6, More Information at 732-7741

| 13th | Chili and Salsa Cook-off - The first annual chili and salsa cook-off, sponsored by the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce will be held from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eno River Parking Deck. Entry forms will be accepted until September 1, 2008.

| 13th | Colonial Kids Day - The Third Annual Colonial Kids Day will be held on September 13th. Girls and boys between the ages of 6 and 13 should arrive at the Orange County Historical Museum between 11:15 and 11:45. Activities include a costume contest, fashion show, lemonade party, crafts, and dance lessons. Tickets are $6.00 per child and include the lemonade party, colonial craft, and dance lesson. The costume contest and fashion show are free. The deadline for ticket reservations is September 1st. Please contact the Orange County Historical Museum at (919) 732-2201 for more information or to purchase a ticket.

| 26th | James and Maxine Freeland Memorial Cruise-In - The Daniel Boone Merchants Association will sponsor a cruise-in as part of the "Celebration of the Automobile." Fesitivities begin at 5:00 p.m. and there will be music. The event is free and open to the public.

| 27th+and+28th | Mask and Puppet Workshop - The Hillsborough Arts Council will sponsor a Mask and Puppet Workshop in preparation for the Hillsborough Handmade Parade. The first of a two part series, the workshops will conclude October 4 & 5. Choose two Saturdays or two Sundays.

| 27th | The second annual Celebration of the Automobile Car Show will be held on Septemeber 27, 2008 from 8am -5pm. The event will be held at the Historic Occoneechee-Orange Sppedway. Take I-85 to exit 165 and follow the signs to the speedway entrance. Scheduled events include door prizes for registered participants, an open car show, local drivers and race cars, a 50/50 drawing, race car driver reunion, free kids rides, live beach music by The Castaways, local school bands, a live auction featuring racing memorabilia, and food and souvenirs by local vendors and church/civic organizations. The event is free and open to the public.

| 7th | Burwell Table d’Hôte. This dinner event pairs talented volunteer chefs with gracious hosts in some of the most beautiful and interesting homes in Hillsborough. Reservations accepted beginning October 21. For more details, go to Burwell School.
